Meet the Doctors
Dr. Michael Hoyt grew up in Anson, Maine and attended Carrabec High School where he graduated with honors. He attended the University of Maine at Orono where he earned his undergraduate pre-requisites for chiropractic college. He then attended New York Chiropractic College in Glen Cove, Long Island where he graduated as valedictorian of his class with a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree.
Dr. Hoyt began practice on Main Street in Winthrop on April 1st 1979. As the practice grew and he needed to expand, he designed and built the office building on Rt. 202 in Winthrop and moved the practice there in March of 1986. Dr. Mike’s wife, Gail, managed the office for many years. She became a licensed massage therapist in 1988 and practices massage upstairs at the center. She also fills in part time for staff and manages the practice.
Dr. Mike is an avid outdoorsman. He and his family enjoy snowmobiling, skiing, fishing, boating, kayaking, biking, camping and nearly any outdoor activity. They spend a lot of time at “Hoyt’s Landing” on Moosehead Lake.
Hoyt Chiropractic Center has had several associates over the years and the newest is Dr. Lacaya Hoyt, who is Dr. Mike’s daughter and who grew up in the practice. She replaces Dr. Rich as the “New Guy” and Dr. Rich has suddenly become a 10 year “veteran”. Time Flies!
The three doctors offer a unique mix of older and younger, male and female, experience and fresh viewpoint. We enjoy meeting the health needs of children, adults, seniors, athletes, office workers, etc.
Dr. Richard Knipping grew up in Winterport, Maine and graduated from Hampden Academy in 1994, where he played baseball and football. He attended Springfield College in Massachusetts and earned his Bachelors degree in Sports Biology. While at Springfield College Dr. Rich played rugby, was a member of the alpine ski team and raced mountain bikes. He focused on sports nutrition and exercise along with sports medicine. After graduating in 1998 from Springfield College, Dr. Rich attended New York Chiropractic College in upstate New York. He received his Doctorate in December, 2001. While at NYCC he was a member of the mountain bike team, traveling to Texas and competing in the 2000 Chiro Games, an Olympics for all 16 Chiropractic colleges in the United States. NYCC's mountain bike team won a silver medal.
Dr. Rich currently resides in Monmouth and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities. He is a member of Team Maine Racing, an adventure snowmobile race team that raises money for the Pine Tree Camp by competing in Cain's Quest, a 1400 mile race across Labrador, Newfoundland. He enjoys hiking, fishing, mountain biking, skiing and snowmobiling.
Dr. Lacaya Hoyt grew up in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth Academy in 2003. During her school years she spent much of her time after school at the office or the local stable with her horse Boogie.
Following high school she attended the University of New England to get her pre-chiropractic requirements and then began attending New York Chiropractic college in the fall of 2006. During chiropractic college she was on the Dean’s list for several of her ten trimesters and was inducted into the Phi Chi Omega Honor Society. She graduated in December of 2009 and began practicing with her dad and Dr. Rich in the spring of 2010.
In true Hoyt Chiropractic fashion, she enjoys snowmobiling and other outdoor activities such as skiing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and horseback riding. She also enjoys spending time at “Hoyt’s Landing” with her family.
Meet Our Staff
No practice runs with doctors alone!
Our chiropractic assistants (CA’s) run the front desk, take patient histories, perform range of motion exams, do computerized spinal scans, apply physiotherapy modalities, bill insurance, and much more!
Maine is one of the only states that has a CA training program and issues a Chiropractic Assistant License. This program trains our staff in anatomy, physiology, physiotherapy, exam procedures, and basic office procedures.
Our CA’s are hired for their efficiency, people skills, and their caring and compassion for the most important people in our practice—our patients!!
Feel free to ask these professionals any questions you may have. They, like our doctors, are here to help!!
